Skill Development Path (2026)
Current Focus: Broadcast / Media Network Engineering
Building toward mid-to-senior IP broadcast engineer roles ($70K-130K+). Three parallel tracks:
Track 1: SMPTE 2110 Lab (Infrastructure)
- Split-plane network architecture (PTP timing + 10GbE media)
- PTP boundary clock configuration (SMPTE 2059 profile)
- IGMP v3 multicast management
- Hardware: MikroTik CRS326 + CRS305, Mellanox ConnectX-3
- Status: Hardware ordered, Phase 1 implementation pending
Track 2: 12G-SDI Integration (Bridge Skills)
- Hybrid 12G-SDI / 2110 bridge design using Blackmagic converters
- Camera-to-SDI-to-2110 signal chain (A5100 → Micro Converter → 2110 IP Mini BiDirect)
- Understanding when to use SDI vs 2110 for different facility scales
- Status: Equipment buy plan finalized (~$410 used), not yet purchased
Track 3: st2110-healthmon (Software)
- Open-source continuous health monitor for 2110 networks
- PTP agent (linuxptp pmc polling), RTP flow monitor (libpcap), SDP registry
- Prometheus metrics + Grafana dashboards
- Status: Designed, not yet implemented
